A Whirlwind of a Time
Things looked impossible. I was supposed to perform a wedding and my son was supposed to be a ring bearer for this wedding as well. Our adoption agency had just told us to be ready to be in China on Friday. The wedding was on Saturday. Things looked absolutely bleak for our presence at the wedding. I prayed several times in the evening and then I lifted up one last prayer before heading to sleep. You guessed it; the impossible happened on the next day. For some strange reason, the timetable for our group (one group out of four) had been changed.
So I was able to perform the wedding and my son was able to serve as a ring bearer. Yet there wasn’t a whole lot of breathing room for us—just enough to participate in the wedding, because after the wedding, my son and I had to hop on a plane to China to catch up with the rest of my family. On the second day that I was in China, a group of us (adopting parents) went to an office. The guide instructed the women to try to avoid crying when we met the children, but I could see tears welling up in the eyes of a number of parents as the officials placed these children into our arms. Some were first time parents, others were already parents like us, but each of us was overjoyed by the gift of life that was placed into our hands.
Thus in one small moment, we were a family of five. Our two boys were busy trying to take pictures of their new sister; I was busy taking a video of the moment; and my wife was busy welcoming our daughter into her new family. These few days were like a whirlwind, but it was amazing to see how the Lord worked everything out. God allowed me to take part in the starting of a new family (the wedding) and then allowed me the privilege of expanding my own family. Yes, we did travel to China with our boys and we thank God for all your prayers because the trip went far smoother than we had hoped for. A whirlwind of a time, yes. A God blessed time, yes! It’s great that our God majors in doing the impossible.
