Mount Hermon 2006

As always, the JEMS Mount Hermon camps were a wonderful time for spiritual renewal, making new friends and enjoying God’s creation. The family camp, the junior high camp, the inter-high camp, the senior high camp, the college camp and the Special camp were all wonderful camps and the folks that attended them had a great time. We had people at every one of the above mentioned camps this year.

Sayings such as the following were heard: “I’m glad that I went after all.” “This camp changed the way I view life.” Some of you may ask, “Why should I go on a Christian retreat?” Let me suggest a few reasons. Firstly, it’s nice to be able to reflect and study God’s Word away from the busyness of life. Being away from the hurried schedule that inflicts much of our society may allow God’s Word to sink into our hearts in ways that may not happen in the midst of our running from one event to another. Secondly, it’s great to hang out with a number of other Christians from other churches and denominations. It’s not just about God and us, but also about how we relate to each other through Christ. Yes, we discover that the Church is bigger than just our church. Thirdly, there is something special that happens when God gathers Christians from different places to focus on him for an extended amount of time. For teenagers, it’s an awesome feeling to be able to worship God with other teenagers throughout California and to realize that they are not the only teenager struggling to follow Jesus Christ in today’s adolescent culture. The different camps allow the activities, music and messages to be catered to each group in such a way so as to maximize the experiences for every unique set of people.

Even Jesus had a mountain top experience so to speak (Matthew 17:1-13). Why not start thinking and praying about making Mount Hermon or another Christian camp your vacation spot next year? You’ll have the opportunity to eat, to fellowship, to sing, to play, to pray, to hear the Word of God. Most of us take some type of vacation each year with the family. Wouldn’t it be nice to take a vacation where you might just have your life changed?
