“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 The Bible begins with words, “In the beginning God….” That is the very best place to start the New Year. We should begin with God and His word. What we know about God is based on the Bible. Deuteronomy 29:29 says, “There are some things the LORD our God has kept secret, but there are some things he has let us know. These things belong to us and our children forever so that we will do everything in these teachings.” (NCV) God wrote the 66 books over 1,500 years using more than 40 different writers. The collection of the books is the Bible. So how well do you know God and your Bible? Here are some questions to test you. Try and see how well you know these facts and trivia of the Bible: 1. Which two half-brothers of Jesus wrote books of the Bible (Matt 13:55)? 2. How many times did Noah send doves from the ark after the storm (Gen 8:8-12)? 3. How many pairs of shoes did the children of Israel wear during their 40 years in the wilderness (Deut 29:5)? 4. Who was the first of the twelve disciples to be murdered (Acts 12:1-2)? 5. How young was King David when he became the King of Israel (2 Sam 5:4)? 6. What does the city of “Jericho” mean (Deut 34:3)? 7. How many loaves of bread did Jesus use to feed the 4,000 (Matt 15:36-38)? 8. Into how many parts did the soldiers divide Jesus’ garments (John 19:23)? 9. Who was the first judge of Israel (Judges 1:13)? 10. Who was the last judge of Israel (1 Sam 7:8)? 11. What was the name of Moses’ wife (Ex 2:21)? 12. What is the shortest verse in the Bible (John 11:35)? 13. What is the longest chapter in the Bible? How many verses does it have? 14. What is the shortest chapter in the Bible? 15. How many children did Jacob have (Gen 29)? 16. Which king of Judah was struck with leprosy when he tried to take the place of a priest at the altar (2 Chron. 26:18-21)? 17. How many pounds of myrrh and aloes did Nicodemus put on the body of Jesus (John 19:39)? 18. Which dressmaker was raised from the dead (Acts 9:36-40)? 19. How long did Noah remained in the ark (Gen 7:10-11)? 20. Who said to disciples, “Come and have breakfast” (John 21:12)? God commands us, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Tim 2:15) Let’s spur one another to know God and His Word better in the New Year. — Pastor Sakurai ANSWERS: [1.
